Lactarius quieticolor grows under pine, like L. deliciosus, and it can be distinguished from the latter by the smaller size and duller colours.

Due to the strongly greening surface of the cap and stipe, it can resemble L. deterrimus, which is associated to spruce.

The presence of pits on the stipe, very evident in these specimens, can be a good hint to recognize this species; pits are very rare in L. deterrimus.
