As its name suggests, Russula acrifolia has a very acrid taste in the gills; its context turns orange pinkish at first and then turns greyish-black as in all the species of sect. Compactae.

This member of the Nigricantinae is characterised by the acrid taste and a viscid taste. It grows on rich soil.
