Peziza arvernensis

Boud.

The genus Peziza comprehends many species, which are usually more interesting for the specialist than for the beginner, since only a few may be recognized without the aid of microscopic characters. Some of them, nevertheless, are noteworthy for the colours or the large size, and they don't go unnoticed. Peziza arvernensis makes its first appearences during the spring in beech forests and presents several peculiar characteristics: absence of stipe, initially yellowish, later hazel brown colours, smooth hymenium and rough excipulum, waxy context. Its spores are decorated by fine warts. (g.p.)
