First steps in Mycology

This three-year special issue includes an introduction to mycology dedicated to beginners and enthusiasts. The two introductory chapters include information about biology and ecology of macromycetes and a discussion about the morphological characters used to identify them in the field and under the microscope. A glossary of the terms used in fungal descriptions is included. Keys and tables are provided to aid identification of the main macromycete genera, which are discussed in detail in the fourth and more extensive chapter; for each genus a brief description is given, accompanied by bibliographic references, notes about the most importan species and some colour pictures. The fifth and final chapter offers an updated compendium about the different type of mushroom intoxications.
