Original diagnosis

Russula cochisei Fatto, sp. nov.
Pileus 5–10 cm latus, convexus, maturans ad plano-depressum; margo aequus, aetate leviter striatulus; cutis separabilis usque ad 2/3 partes radii, glabra, rubra gravis et sordida, trama alba, tenuis, firmus, immutans; odor nullus; sapor mitis. Lamellae adnatae, modice confertae, aequae, ochraceus. Stipes ad 7 × 2.5 cm, glabrus, albus, saepe areas roseas forte. Sporae ochraceae, (Romagnesi Ive), (8.0–) 8.8–10.4 (–11.2) × (6.4–) 6.8–8.8 (–9.2) µm, flocculae 0.4–1.0 µm altae, separatae aut cum paucis et brevibus connectivis. Cystidia hymenialia 56–104 × 8–15 µm, variabilis, fusiformia, sub-cylindrica, fusoidia-clavata, area superior cum contento recurvato et granulato. Pileus subcutis habens libratas-contextas hyphas 2–4 µm latas. Pileus epicutis ixotrichodermis hypharum hyalinarum filimentosarum et 3–8 µm lata subcylindrica pileocystidia cum oleiferis extremis hyphis.
Holotypus: Lectus a R.M. Fatto 820 (CM-3774) in Arizona, Cochise County, Chiricahua Montibus, altitudo 1950 m (6400 ft), sub pino, 24 Aug 1994, positus in herbario Los Angeles County Museum (LAM).
