Original diagnosis

Russula renidens sp. nov.: pileo carnosulo, 35-80 (100) mm lato, initio globoso haemisphaerico, denique paulum depresso, margine diu incurvata, subacuta, aetate aliquando vix striata, in siccescentibus dense crispata, cute late secernibili, lubrica vel tactu parumper adipata, colore e cerasino rubrocupreo purpureove, saepe R. rhodopodam vel paludosam revocante, aliquando partim flavescente vel subaurantiaco, perraro in centro nigro vel viridescente. Lamellis subacutis sive obtusiusculis, adnatis, aetate satis distantibus, rectilineis, fragilibus, denique cremeis. Stipite (25) 40-100 (130) × 10-22 mm, farcto, clavato vel vix fusiformi, interdum rimoso, plerumque partim vel penitus roseo rubro, plus minusve cinerascente. Carne sub cute carminea, ex udo griseascente, sapore acri, odoreque debiliter fruticuloso. Sporis in cumulo cremeis, II (b) c-d in codice Romagnesii, obovoideis, 7,2-8,8 × 5,4-7 µm, verruculis usque 0,5 µm eminentibus, partim catenulatis vel cristatis, cristis parum amyloideis. Basidiis tetrasporis, 37-50 × 10-13 µm. Cystidiis fusiformibus, cuspidatis, 65-108 × 8-12 (14) µm. Dermatocystidiis in epicute multiformibus, paulum septatis, 4,5-8 (12) µm latis. Habitatione in locis udis cum Betulis in calcareo solo; in Fennoscandia species non rara. - Typus: Finland, Enontekiön Lappi, Enontekiö commune, Kilpisjärvi, near the Biological Station, mountain birch (Betula pubescens subsp. czerepanovii) forest, around a moist euthropic depression with Salix bushes, Grid 27º E: 7674: 253, alt. 480 mt, 12.VIII.1990 J. Ruotsalainen 1758F (KUO, holotypus; IB TURA 3656, isotypi).
