Original diagnosis

Russula quercilicis sp. nov. carpophoro medio, robusto pileo carnoso 40-80 (110) mm lato, aetate paulum depresso, margine levi obtusa, cute adnata, versus marginem tantum secernibili, parum nitente dein opaca, colore brunneolo, xerampelino, e fulvido ochraceo raro livido violaceo, centro aequali vel pallidiore, interdum omnino eburneo.
Lamellis obtusis, postice rotundatis, subcrassis, distantibus, 6-12 (15) mm altis, fragilibus, aetate flavis. Stipite solidissimo 40-80 x 15-27 mm, claviformi dein +/- cylindrato, superne dilatato, rugoso, albo, perraro dilute carmineo. Carne in iuventute subdura, alba, subimmutabili, sapore manifeste acri, odore insensibili vel subtili in lamellis cedrino.
Guaiaco debili vel subnullo. Sporis in cumulo flavis, circum IVc in Codice Romagnesii, 8-10 (10,4) x 6,8-8 (8,5) µm, vix echinulatis, cristis connexiviisque imperfecte reticulatis. Basydiis tetrasporis 40-64 x 11-18 µm. Cistydiis 60-120 x 8-12 (16) µm. Cute pilis x 3-4 µm attenuatis, raro obtusis dermatocistydiisque e cilyndratis claviformibus, aliquis pediculo instructis, non septatis, 5,5-10 (18) µm latis, Fuchsinae ope incrustatis. Habitatione in Quercetis ilicis. Holotypus prope vicum "Marsiliana" (Etruriae meridionalis) 6-11-90 lectus in Herb. I.B. conservatur nº 90/207. Paratypus in Herb ROHB nº 1320LQ.
