Original diagnosis

Russula melitodes : Pileo primum globato, dein expanso, 5-8 cm., firmo, margine satis acuta, dein obtusa, non sulcata, e vinoso fusco, vel sordide purpureo vinosove, in medio olivaceo, viscidulo, laevi. Stipite duro, diu pleno, 45-70 x 13-20-(25) mm., albido, stramineis vel fuscidulis maculis deorsum variegato. Carne dura, leviter fuscescente vel flavescente, sapore dulci, odore tandem interdum mellino. Lamellis obtusis, latis, ochraceis. Sporis in pulvere ochraceis. Sporis 8,2-10-13 x 7-8,5 µ, spinis singularibus, satis altis echinulatis. Cystidiis obtusis, 70-100 x (8)-10-13,5 µ. Epicute hyphis primordialibus, incrustatis praedita quorum cacumen angustatum nudum est. Aestate : sub arboribus frondosis.
