Original diagnosis

R. medullata (= R. subcompacta ss. Romagn. = R. Ferrii ss. Blum.). — Pileo 4,5-12 cm convexo, dein pulvinato, postremo expanso, primum medio umbilicato, deinde leviter, sed ample depresso, margine crassa, involuta, dein obtusa, levi vel breviter sulcata, ex amygdalino viridi, ex olivaceo vel e glauco griseo vel murino, raro partim brunneo, lilaceo, violaceo vel e vinoso brunneo, cute levi, plerumque nitida. Stipite 2,5-9,5 × 1-3,2 cm, firmo et pleno, deinde medullato (medulla Juncos in mentem revocante), albo dein brunneo tincto. Carne crassa, firma, alba, vetustate paulum flavescente. Odore debili; sapore dulci vel leviter in lamellis acri. Lamellis primum stipatis, deinde subdistantibus, furcatis, attenuatis et subdecurrentibus, deinde rotondatis, antice obtusis, 4-12 mm latis, eburneis, deinde clare ochraceis. Sporis in pulvere pallide ochraceis (nec cremeis), (5,7)-6,5-8,5 × (5)-5,7-6,5 µ, verrucis obtusis concinne punctatis. Basidiis 33-48 × 7,2-9,7 µ. Epicute ex pilis ramosissimis, plerumque gracilibus, interdum crassioribus, 2,5-5-(6) µ latis, constante; dermatocystidiis obtusis vel capitulatis, (3)-5-7 µ latis. — In sylva frondosa.
