Original diagnosis

Pileus 6-10 cm diam., carnosus, marginem versus tenuis; subglobosus deinde irregulariter expansus, medio interdum leviter depressus vel obscure umbonatus; margo striata, saepe lobata; cutis viscosa, 1/3–2/3 secernibilis, versicolor, purpureo-violacea, purpurea, violaceo-rosea, fusca, ochracea, luteo-olivacea, pallescens, luteo- et rubiginoso-maculans. Stipes breviusculus, inaequaliter cylindraceus, plenus, medullatus deinde interdum ± excavatus, albidus, leviter cinerascens atque luteo-maculans. Lamellae confertae, latiusculae, rotundato-obtusae, subliberae, diu pallidae deinde aurantiacae. Caro firma deinde fragilis, albida, fuscescens; sapor mitis deinde amarescens, in lamellis juvenilibus acriusculus; odor R. delicae. Sporae in cumulo croceae (Crawshay), 7,6–9,0 µ × 6,1–7,4 µ, echinulatae, verrucis singularibus. Cystidiae 55–80 µ × 10–12,5 µ, immersae vel paulum emergentes, lanceolatae, in SV leviter caerulescentes. Dermatocystidiae 6–7 µ latae. Sub Carpino betulo, aestate et autumno.
