Original diagnosis

Pileo 30-50 (60) mm lato, e convexo, lobato, inconcinno, paulum depresso, polito, colore rubro, cinnabarino, sive rufescente, aliquando in medio cupreo vel vix purpurascente. Margine obtusa, breviter sulcata. Lamellis distantibus, antice obtusis, postice adnatis, sive rotundatis, venosis, fragilibus, aetate ochraceis. Stipite claviformi, aliquando sursum dilatato, 25-40 × 10-16 (18) mm, spongioso farcto, albido, mox flavo-brunneo ad instar Russulae melliolentis. Carne albidula, demum flavescente, vix brunnescente, miti, odore Russulam quéletii in mentem revocante, FeSO4 ope nec colorata. Sporis in cumulo ochraceis, circum IIIc, Iva (Cod. Romagnesii), obovoideis, 7,5-9,6 × 6,3-7,5 µm, cristis subreticulatis, verrucis usque 0,8 µm altis. Basidiis claviformibus, 48-60 × 10-14 µm. Cystidiis 65-90 × 8-13 µm. Cute pilis 2-4,5 µm latis e longiter attenuatis affilatis, rarissimis obtusis, dermatocystidiisque cylindraceis, × 4-7 (8) µm, paulum septatis, nec incrustatis. Habitatione sub frondosis. Holotypus: Val Piana (BL), 19-7-93, sub Fago sylvatica. In Herb. I.B. conservatur n. 93/601.
