Original diagnosis

R. acrifolia (= R. densifolia sensu J. Schaef. = adusta var. rubens Romagn.) — Pileo 5-15 cm lato, globoso, dein e convexo plano, depresso, margine obtusa, involuta, dein interdum sinuosa, ex umbrino brunneo, viscoso. Stipite 3-6,5 × 1,2-3 cm, firmo, cylindrato, pleno vel medulloso-cavo, albo, dein rubido vel fuliginoso colore tincto. Carne crassa, rubescente, dein fuliginea. Sapore acri vel acerrima, praesertim in lamellis. Lamellis satis stipatis vel satis distantibus, inaequalibus, saepe furcatis, 5-12 mm latis, falciformibus, saepe paulum arcuatis, decurrentibus, pallide eburneis, deinde cremeis, ex ochraceis vel paulum glaucis cremeis, in senectute brunnescentibus. Sporis in pulvere albis. — Sporis (6,5)-7-9,5-(11,5) × (5,5)-6,5-7,5 µ, dense reticulatis, verrucis modicis. Basidiis 45-55 × 7-10-(11,5) µ. Cystidiis cylindratis vel subfusiformibus, 57-115 × 5-7,2 µ, appendiculatis, ope Sulfovanillinae nigricantibus. Epicute pilis gracilibus, obtusis, 3-4,5 µ latis, cum aliquot dermatocystidiis angustis (3,5-5 µ), obtusis vel appendiculatis. Laticiferis in cortice stipitis praesentibus. — Frequens in silvis, sub arboribus frondosis vel coniferis.
