Original diagnosis

Pileo 20-50 mm. lato, carnosulo, sicco, e convexo plano-depresso, vix papillato, ruguloso, rufo-aurantiaci vel fulvo, pallescente, margine non striato; lamellis pallidibus; stipite 20-45 x 3-8 mm., aequali, primitus pallido, mox pileo concolori vel deorsum obscuriore; lacte ex albo lutescente, primitus miti, tarde sub-acri vel amaro; odore subnullo; sporis in cumulo flavidis ('C-D Crawshay'), 7-9 x 5½-6½ µ, verrucosis et reticulosis vel sub-reticulosis lineis anastomosantibus; cystidiis fusiformibus 6-7 µ latis; hyphis cuticularibus filamentosis 2-4 µ latis. In locis paludibus sub alnis, betulis, salicis, etiam pinis. Typus: Mortimer, Berks, 9 Sept. 1951, in Herb. Hora.
